The house rules, set out in plain words

Terms of Service

The agreement between you and the operator of Maffia. By installing or playing the game, you accept it.

The short version: Maffia is free, has no accounts and sells nothing. Play it with the people in your room, leave other tables and the lobby service alone, and take the game as it stands. Donations are a kindness, never a purchase.

I. Who these terms are between

Maffia (“the game”) is operated by Dawid Zbiński, a sole proprietor registered in the Polish CEIDG business register, NIP 7352921429, REGON 528114982, with a place of business at ul. gen. Władysława Sikorskiego 15/15, 34-400 Nowy Targ, Poland (“the operator”, “we”, “us”), reachable at dawid@zbinski.dev. These terms govern your use of the Maffia mobile app and of the lobby service that lets the phones at one table find each other (together, “the service”). If you do not accept these terms, do not use the service.

II. What the service is

Maffia is a party game for three or more people sitting in the same room, each with a phone. One player hosts a table, the others join with a six-digit code, the app deals the roles in secret, and a narrator voice walks the table through night and day.

The service is free. There are no accounts, no registration, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases and no advertising. You need a compatible device and an internet connection, and both are your own responsibility, including any data charges.

III. The service is provided as it stands

The service is provided as it is and as it happens to be available, without warranty of any kind, whether stated or implied. In particular we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, timely, error-free, or that a game will always reach its end: tables depend on your devices, your network and third-party platforms that we do not control.

The game is a game of bluffing among people who know each other. What is said at your table is between the people at it, and we take no part in it.

IV. Fair use

Use the service for playing the game, and nothing else. You agree not to:

  • join, disrupt, spy on or interfere with a table you were not invited to, or attempt to guess table codes in order to reach one;
  • attack, overload, flood or otherwise abuse the lobby service, including creating tables in bulk, sending automated or malformed requests, or attempting to work around any limit we apply;
  • attempt to gain access to parts of the service that are not open to you, or to read or alter other players' game data;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app, or build tools that automate play or reveal information the game keeps hidden, except where the law expressly permits it;
  • use the service to harass anyone, or for any unlawful purpose;
  • choose an alias that is unlawful, abusive or impersonates somebody else.

Where a use of the service damages the experience of other players, we may block it, including by refusing connections from a device or network.

V. The app and its artwork

The app, its source code, its name, its narration and voice recordings, its illustrations and all other artwork remain the property of the operator and are protected by copyright and other laws. You are given a personal, revocable, non-transferable permission to install the app and play the game on devices you control.

You may not copy, redistribute, resell, sublicense or publish the app or any of its artwork, narration or code, nor create derived works from them, without our written permission. Mafia as a parlour game is a folk tradition and belongs to nobody; this clause is about this particular app and the material made for it.

VI. Donations

Donations are entirely voluntary. They are handled by Buy Me a Coffee, a third-party platform, under its own terms and privacy policy; the money and the payment details go to it and not to us, and we never see your card or bank information.

A donation is a gift towards server costs. It is not payment for the service and buys nothing: no feature, no priority, no support commitment, no guarantee that the service will keep running, and no interest in the app. Everything in the game is available to every player, donor or not. Refunds, where possible at all, are a matter between you and Buy Me a Coffee.

VII. Changes, interruption and the end of the service

The service may change at any time. Features may be added, altered or removed, rules and roles may be reworked, and the lobby service may be taken down for maintenance without notice. We may also stop offering the service altogether, and we may do so without notice and without compensation of any kind, including to anyone who has donated. As the service keeps nothing after a table closes, there is no stored progress to lose.

VIII. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising out of your use of the service, nor for interrupted or unfinished games, lost time, loss of data on your device, or the conduct of other players at your table or elsewhere.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for intentional harm, or for fraud — and nothing in them affects the rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the country where you live.

IX. Privacy

What the service processes, and how briefly, is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

X. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Poland, and the Polish courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country, nor of the right to bring proceedings there where that law grants it.

XI. Changes to these terms

Changes to these terms are announced by updating this page and moving forward the date at the top of it. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the terms as they then stand. If you do not, stop using the service and remove the app.
